Grocery Shopping Progress

I have been clipping coupons for a few months now, and at first I was getting really frustrated with the whole thing because I wasn't really saving any money. With the organizing tips from my friends at church and the continued support from my husband, I think I am starting to get the hang of it. I'm not a super saver, yet, but I am buying double the amount of food I was buying before and paying the same amount as I was before I started clipping coupons.

Yesterday, I went to Kroger and I spent $152 but I saved and $82. I think the part that I am most proud of is that I bought 107 items, so I payed like $1.50 for each item. That means I spent $1.50 on a box of slim fast drinks for my husband and $1.50 for 3 lbs of ground beef for my family and $1.50 for a 5 lb bag of chicken. I know that might not mean a lot to some people, but for me that is major progress! :)

  1. We don't have the couponing system here like you have in the States - sadly. If we did, I would like to give it a go. Despite that, I've tried to control our spending and budget better, and been able to cut back quite a bit... doesn't it make you feel so good to know you're helping?! I think that's amazing that you bought so many things for so little - figuring it all down to how much it equals out to for each item is the kind of thing I do too!!! :)

  2. Good for you girl! I am so envious of you having Kroger...but I'm learning my way around the tricks the best I can at Walmart. Price matching is my friend! I still find though that the majority of coupons/specials are on pre-packaged foods like chips/cookies and lunchmeats...all of which we don't eat much of. I need coupons for VEGGIES!!!!!!!!! :) Do you do the CVS/Walgreens deals? I'm saving tons there...I shall never pay for deodorant again!

  3. Have you tried going to Kroger.com and downloading coupons directly to your card? They don't double, but sometimes you find great coupons. We don't get the paper, and although I always started with great intentions, I never kept up with the clipping and organizing... Still, I have been saving $40 or more on groceries, just by following the ad and the download coupons!
